Omi
Omi province was located along the eastern shore of Lake Biwa, Japan's largest body of fresh water. Omi was strategically important because the two roads which connected eastern and western Japan, the Nakasendo and the Tokaido both ran through it. Most of Omi was incorporated into Shiga prefecture when the prefectural system was established in the Meiji period.
