Yoshimune Tokugawa
Yoshimune Tokugawa (1684-1751), after Ieyasu, was the greatest of the shoguns. His far-reaching reforms completely reshaped the central administration and halted temporarily the decline of the shogunate. He developed the first law code of the Tokugawa era and inspired the first interest in Western knowledge.
